Afghanistan

there is talk, 'Careless talk costs lives', that Gordon will soon announce a further increase to our troops in Afghanistan. This needs to be agreed in Parliament, with a clear mission statement, what is the purpose, when will they be withdrawn, what will be the point in sending our soldiers to fight an unwinnable war.

Some commentators refer to the situation in Afghanistan as being the 'wrong war, wrong place', well I would add that there is a very old military term which is more applicable, 'never reinforce defeat'. We, being the allies, have lost the war Afghanistan/Pakistan. There never will be a victory, so what is the point in continuing with the killing. We are the problem and never can be the solution. I want the supine MPs to have the opportunity to debate this issue in the House of Commons, and Lords, so that we know what the politicians think they are doing.

I mean, it would seem that we should have a British army for British people, no foreigners in the military, they might not follow orders.

in answer to your point about following orders - have you considered the Ghurkas? Although not having exact knowledge of their entire history, from what I do know they have always been most loyal and proffessional soldiers of the British Army, as have the many Commonwealth citizens who serve - that is what the foreigners as are so blythely described by the papers are - Commonwealth Citizens, who have been recruited because of a lack of desire of our own to join; even the reserves are suffering from this same problem. The enlistment of such commonwealth citizens is therefore neccesary to keep the numbers high. I am sure they follow orders just the same as their british born colleagues do.
