Ben Bradshaw

today it has been good to see a comment from our local MP Ben Bradshaw in respect of the performance of the Devon & Cornwall police MP says police force could do better after league table released echo October 25.Let us now see some comments from him with regard to the other issues of the day. Why must one more soldier die in Iraq over an occupation where we are the problem and never will be the solution. Don't give me that we are there at the invitation of the Iraqi government or that our soldiers must not have died in vain. Why must our pensioners live in poverty when hundreds of millions of dollars are handed out to corrupt Iraqi officials, drug barons or militia willing to use any means to bring to an end our occupation. We are just seen as any other tribe who want to be the masters. What are your views on fines for putting the rubbish in the wrong bin. What is to stop a malicious neighbour putting their rubbish in your bin, or kids playing pranks, or somebody having too much rubbish in their bin and dumping it in yours. What are your views on the chief executive, on about £150,000 according to the official accounts, of Devon County Council telling pensioners he can do nothing for them. Nice pension he will get. What are your views on the poor people who try to do everything to keep out of debt over christmas who lose all their money Dad tells of his anger as he loses Christmas cash in firm's collapse Echo October 25.Mr Bradshaw you have remained silent for too long and it is not good enough, Exeter PCT have sold Dean Clarke House for about £9 million, the post offices face closure, the libraries face closure. People know what I think so what about you. The honeymoon period is well and truly over so come on out and come clean.

Iraq

just to let all the readers know that on October 11th the Iraqi government passed a law allowing, after 18 months, the formation of federal regions in Iraq.Accordingly, when the UK politicians talk about a democratically elected Iraqi government please understand that some of us know what is going on. They have already passed the necessary laws to enable to take place something which will happen no matter what we say.The troops will be home by christmas, I don't know which christmas but they will be home soon. As for the French please note that the designated chief executive of Total, Christphe de Margerie a French oil company, was taken into custody and questioned about illegal payments for Iraq oil during the oil for food program. Now why do you think that the French did not want the invasion of Iraq to take place. If they had agreed then we would not be in this trouble now because there would have been a united front but hey that's all in the past now.

Teachers uniforms

in respect of women wearing the veil in school may I sggest that if all teachers were required in any state school to wear a uniform then nobody could say that they were being discriminated against if they were to to be told not to wear the veil.

Devon Social Services

some people may well accuse me of losing touch with reality or being unfair to Devon County Council and councillors but I strongly suggest that everybody obtain and read a copy of the Devon joint area review of children's services to begin to understand why I occasionally get angry, sometimes very angry. One of the prime reasons why we pay our council taxes is for social services, managers in particular, to protect the children of Devon. Read the report in particular sections 44 through to 50. Do it and find out what is really going on.Current procedures for recording contacts with and referrals to the social care service are inadequate.Performance management in social services is inadequate. Personnel files in childrens social care services are poorly maintained. There is no clear, written procedure for management decision-making when CRB checks reveal previous offence. This is unsafe practice.Sixty four children, in respect of foster carers, were placed outside the approval range of carers. Services to children with learning difficulties and/or disabilities are marked by inconsistencies. There is insifficient use of carers' assessments and too little attention to the needs of carers and other children in the family. Now I know that action is being taken to correct this appalling situation but one can legitimately ask how have we got to this appalling state of affairs and how much will it cost to correct the situation. Maybe they could use the money from the sale of Exeter International Airport to correct the situation. Oh yes thats right they can only use the £40 odd million to build new roads. Maybe they could build new care and nursing homes for the young and old of Devon. Shame on you DCC for allowing this to happen, what exactly are you being paid for.

Met policeman refusing to perform his duty

the only time any policeman, soldier, airman or sailor etc can refuse to do something is that the order to perform a task is illegal. It is illegal to arrest somebody in Iraq and hand the person either to be tortured or killed by the militia now operating in Iraq. Kendall-Smith had to serve time because he disobeyed orders. Ben Griffin was released from the army because he signed to defend Queen and Country not to kill on behalf of American foreign policy. This police man should have been dismissed from the police for refusing a legal legitimate order. He has failed in his duty to perform his duties without fear or favour.

Mercenaries

now we are really beginning to see the awful results of the Blair Iraq project. Soldiers being killed, even medical staff. Large numbers are leaving the army to sign up for private security firms at high salaries, and why shouldn't they. If they are going to die then they may as well get well paid for it. Mind you they don't show up in official figures so the government is quite happy.Soldiers signed up to fight for Queen and Country and when they are let down in the way they have been then they owe us no allegiance whatsoever. We have become just a bunch of paid mercenaries. No wonder nobody likes us anymore.
